Well this is the last of the gifts I have made recently just getting her wrapped up ...and this is also the last photo I have taken before I officially finish work now....so to everyone who follows me here and elsewhere thanks so much! Hope you have a great festive time....... Finch. x
p.s...its not that the moth is huge its that the table is tiny...x
New batch of moths to go into my Etsy
shop tomorrow Tuesday at 8.30pm UK time..this is probably going to be
the last batch before Christmas.....These are all soft pinks, muted greys
and faded fleshy velvets.....
Just thought I would share a not very good image of my mantelpiece in my workroom.....Lots of toadstools and candles in jars. Simple.... and to be honest looks really nice all year round!
Last year I left it quite late getting my little room decorated so I promised myself that I would make more of and effort especially as I spend so much time in here.
me with a huge moth I made when I enlarged the pattern....I couldnt
resist making one this big I just wanted to see if I could do it. Cant beat the old style overhead projectors for this. Shes called Oonah and she has a beautiful white fur body and carpet for wings so shes quite heavy! It was not easy to sew the carpet but like most things I get really obsessed with them and need to get them finished so that its out of my system.
I'm not going to sell her as I'm very attached to her but since the
pattern worked out at some point will make some friends for her....when my fingers have healed a little!
Here's a couple of snaps showing one of a pair of huge Spiders that I have been recently working on for some instillation work. The body is made from huge ex display Christmas baubles covered in layers of wadding, cotton and vintage doilies all stitched by hand.
The thorax is covered completely in flat back AB costume jewels which twinkle beautifully.
Ill have some more pics of them soon in situ where the hide and hang from huge webs which Ive made from fishing line and Swarovski crystals.
These were taken in my workroom which actually looks really tidy!
As I have mentioned before I'm really into making 2 items at the same time and its working out well for me.
Not sure why so much but it really suits me and I'm just going with it.
An extension of this for my new little moth collection was to make and style them like mounted insects and almost like the are a Male and Female.
Its been nice to go back and forth on these little babies whilst Christmas work has kept me busy of late.
So here they are my first Male and Female moth collection.to go into my Etsy shop tomorrow at 8.30PM UK time 22nd Nov. Each Sold Separately.
Sorry if I'm not blogging much lately but I am busy making things, some of them I just cant show yet as they are for some Christmas windows which will be finished very soon.....
Some very large spiders,so stay tuned....
Just thought I would share a link to something I bought recently for myself as a little treat.
Its a robotic butterfly in a jar!
Incredibly pretty and sooooo lifelike.
My cats and indeed myself are dazzled by it.
Would make a really fab gift for some one who like butterflies.
It always has a dark tone doesn't it,and probably for most conjures up images of the horror movie.
But not all omens are bad, and I was going to do a post on this for Halloween but ran out of time...but still wanted to do it.
I was prompted to do do this post as recently I made some snails and one sold to a lady who was thrilled that she had bought one as her good omen was seeing snails.
They had appeared like reminders and signs that good thing were on there way.
I too have an omen like this and surprise surprise its a spider.
A spider hanging from a thread, you know when they just hang there motionless and you almost stare at them and wait for them to twitch to life and run back up their silken line. I see them so often and really at bizarre times and places and so these are my own personal omen.
Some years ago I had one which I called '7' as she had 7 legs and because of this I could recognise her.
7 would literally come out whilst I worked and hang on a silken line above where I worked.
Whilst at this particular time things in my life were not going amazing I found a really bizarre comfort in this act as it was just so odd that it kept happening.
My family is a very supersticious one and Ive lost count of how many omens and warnings my mother has and blames for things. But not any good ones.....well to drop a spoon means a 'surprise' but that's not a nice surprise,a fork means a letter and a knife well that's a stranger.....
My father has a thing with birds, well actually the whole family does and some are good but not always.
My fathers father died on Christmas day when he was a child, and he went into the garden and all the walls and the roof of the house were covered in birds. I remember him telling me this and it always stayed with me.
I suppose its how you see things, I don't see the house being covered in birds as a bad thing I find it quite wonderful. I see the birds have 'come to take him away'.
When I die Id like birds to come for me.....
Anyway the point of all this was tell me about you omens....whether they be good or bad...
Do certain things keep cropping up at strange times? Does a random song always come up...
Have been working on lots of things at the same time which isn't usually what I do I tend to work on one or two at most and then onto the next thing.... but Ive been busy making things for Christmas which I'll report on when I'm allowed to....
Ive been making things in pairs whilst working on bigger projects and this has been quite good and a move out of my comfort zone in a way but its worked out quite well.
The result is actually pairs of items some practically identical and for the first time a pair of Hares which will go into my shop as a pair as I couldn't bear to part them....Aww....!
Anyway here they all are and this collection of beasties will go into my shop tomorrow ....... Monday 29th October at 6pm UK time.
Things have been getting very busy lately especially on Etsy which is wonderful it really is with my things now selling very fast which is why I'm putting times up and dates.
If my shop is empty I'm still around and my shop hasn't closed down its just that my things have sold......never fear I'm behind the scenes sewing, always sewing.
Check out this moth that was found in the UK!
Love it! Wish it was me that had found it!
Anyway just thought I would do a quick blog entry and say that I'm making things even if I appear to be quiet.
Have lots to make for Christmas so will have images when I'm allowed to show them....
Also will have new things for my Etsy shop around Mon-Tues all being well.
Here's two snails from a new pattern that I have been working on. I really wanted to release these at the same time as the toadstools but just didn't have the time.
I think this is the most complicated pattern that I have made so far which I have to admit was really frustrating, especially the shells.
They have a really quiet presence about them which is really nice. I think the next ones will have stripey shells maybe with some flashes of greens and blues....
Well I'm back from my holiday in Ibiza.....sun burnt, covered in mosquito bites and erm looking fabulous...
Its nice to be home though even if the cats are ignoring me like they do when you go away.
Anyway here's some pieces that I made for when I got back as its often hard to get going again when you stop.
I wanted to make a few Halloween things just in black with flashes of silver....
These are all made from leather which is a new thing for me but something I wanted to start doing as there is often really lovely leather clothing that is battered and no longer wearable or can be fixed.
These are the first few things that I have made and its been a bit of a learning curve but a really fab one.
These are in my etsy shop now...
Forest moths in muddy browns and greens. These will go into my shop at 6pm today UK time. Then I'm not restocking my shop as I'm away for a little while and will make some more things when I get back. Need a break and give my fingers a rest. Cant wait!
A new set of moths these are all made from hand stitched sampler.
The threads are wool I think?
They are quite thick but they look so nice,I'm really pleased with this set.
If somebody asked me do I like Purple I would say 'not really' but then I see choices that I have made recently that all have quite a lot of Purple in them.
I think its when its with other colours that I like it the most.
The colours in this sampler were brilliant and it combinations of colours that I wouldn't have put together myself but work really beautifully.
This set of moths will go into my Esty shop at 6pm UK time today.
Here's my new collection of fairytale fungus samples.
Ive been making these for what seems ages and storing them away until I thought I had enough to put a collection together.
All available in my Etsy shop.
Ill let the pictures do the talking as Ive worn myself out!
